Students, regardless of their nationality and place of residence, with a non-Italian qualification, are subject to specific admission requirements and are required to provide certain documents to assess the suitability of their educational path.
Types of students
For each undergraduate programme, a number of places available for new freshmen is established annually.
Some types of international students have a specific number of places dedicated to them, called RESERVED PLACES.
To find out if you fall under the category of an “equivalent student” or a student of the "reserved places", visit the dedicated page.
Requirements to participate in the admission test
In order to be admitted to take the admission tests at Politecnico di Milano and, more generally, to be able to enrol, it is necessary to meet certain requirements. These may concern either the total number of years of schooling, the final score, or the successful passing an academic suitability test.
The Ministry of University and Research annually provides universities with guidelines, available here.
To find out if you meet all the foreseen requirements, visit the dedicated page.
Verification of admission requirements
The verification of the admission requirements is carried out by the International Students Office by verifying the following documents, which must be uploaded during the test registration phase, in the section “Laurea (equivalent to a Bachelor of Science) and five-year single-cycle programmes: entrance or recovery tests and enrolment > Documents for enrolment”:
- report cards from the last three years of school, stamped and signed by the competent authority/office;
- final secondary school diploms, if obtained, or a letter of enrolment in the final year of secondary school, stamped and signed by the competent authority/office.
Necessary documents for enrolment
To officially complete the enrolment process at Politecnico di Milano, all students with a foreign qualification must submit a series of documents to the International Students Office to ascertain the eligibiity of the secondary school qualification for further studies at the next level (i.e. to a bachelor’s degree course), as well as the authenticity of the qualification itself.
To find out the mandatory documents to complete the enrolment, go to the dedicated page.
How to apply for a student visa
All non-EU students residing abroad, without a valid residence permit for Italy, are required to obtain a valid student visa in order to enrol in an undergraduate course at Politecnico di Milano.
Non-EU students, with a residence permit for study purposes obtained for a previous enrollment at Politecnico di Milano or another Italian university, who have lost their student status, CANNOT use that same residence permit and will necessarily must obtain a new student visa.
To find out when and how to request a student visa, go to the dedicated page.
Documents for previous career evaluation
Students who have already attended a university course at a foreign university, either partially or entirely, can request the evaluation of exams already taken in order to obtain a course abbreviation. This is not possible if the completed year or years of the course completed were used to fulfil missing admission requirements.
Students who request the evaluation of their previous career, must upload the transcript of the exams passed and the description of the individual courses in the dedicated application.
To officially complete the enrollment process, it will be necessary to provide the International Students Office with a copy of the aforementioned certificate, duly legalized/apostilled.
