Students of Laurea Magistrale Study Programmes

Academic year 2025/2026

English language proficiency  for admission to Master degree programs

To join a Laurea Magistrale (equivalent to Master of Science) study programme, students must demonstrate their knowledge of English by submitting one of the language certifications below (provided they have obtained at least the minimum score indicated in the table).

*Politecnico di Milano does not accept certifications considered expired by the issuing institution.

English language proficiency requirements for admission to Master's degree programs

You must provide a recognised certification attesting your knowledge of English at the required level by the deadlines as indicated on the English language proficiency,: select the data from the drop-down menu and upload the original certification or a certificate proving that you have passed the test.
The Registrar's Office may contact you after enrollment to show your original certificate. Failure to provide the original document may result in the cancellation of your enrollment.

Students who take the test at an institute that sends the result to the Politecnico di Milano electronically are not required to submit an original copy of the certificate.

Students coming from Politecnico English-Language Degree Courses

Students coming from the English-language degree course in Architectural Design and enrolling in the Laurea Magistrale (equivalent to Master of Science) may not have to submit a certification if they have already submitted one of the certifications required for the Laurea (equivalent to Bachelor of Science) and if they have achieved at least 112 ECTS credits in the English-language course. To assess whether you are entitled to this exemption, please contact the Registrar’s Office.

Knowledge of Italian for International students

As of academic year 2021/2022, an Italian language proficiency test is mandatory for international students admitted to all English-language Laurea Magistrale (equivalent to Master of Science) programmes.
International students will be enrolled with Italian OFA additional educational obligations and must certify that they know the language before sitting the graduation exam and completing their studies.

TOEFL CERTIFICATE (TEST OF ENGLISH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE)

For registration procedure, please follow the instructions on the Web site of the Institution: EAS Web siteTOEFL Web site. If you would like to know the convention programme with the Politecnico di ilano, download the EAS TOEFL iBT Programme. The convention provides a 10% discount on courses in preparation for the TOEFL IBT.

The information about the Institution Code of the University of origin (for Politecnico di Milano it is: 9795) is useful for automatic transmission of certificate to the University. At the enrollment, the candidate can choose whether to take the test on-site or remotely:

Internet Based Test: listening | reading | speaking | writing

After about 6/8 from the exam, the result will appear on the candidate's online profile and will be immediately available in digital format. After about two weeks from the carrying out of test, the Institution concerned sends to the student address the certificate of the score obtained in the test; If the student has indicated the identification code of the University of origin (for Politecnico di Milano the Institution Code is: 9795), it forwards to Politecnico di Milano the official certificate; otherwise, the student must request to the Institution concerned to forward the official certification to Politecnico di Milano, following the instructions available in his/her online profile. After receiving the official certification, the Registrar's Office will be able to register the test result in the student's career.

TOEIC CERTIFICATE (TEST OF ENGLISH FOR INTERNATIONAL COMMUNICATION)

The Certificate issued has the title "Listening and Reading - OFFICIAL or INSTITUTIONAL SCORE REPORT"; it shows the candidate's name, the date of birth, the Test date, the Listening score, the Reading score and the Total Score.

Where to sit the test

The result of the test taken at the above headquarters does not have to be presented at the Registrar’s Office.

It issues the following certifications recognized by Politecnico di Milano: Cambridge PET (Preliminary English test); Cambridge FCE (First Certificate in English); Cambridge CAE (Certificate of Advanced English); Cambridge CPE (Certificate of Proficiency in English); IELTS (International English Language Testing System).
